On the way: Black Friday Edition

Es ist wieder soweit: Thanksgiving ist vorbei, Black Friday ist hier und alle Amerikaner drehen wieder durch. Es wurde teilweise seit Mittwoch vor Best Buy im Zelt geschlafen, um die besten Deals zu ergattern. Ehrlich gesagt kann ich diesen Hype nicht verstehen und dieses Jahr habe ich mich strikt geweigert in die Geschaefte zu gehen und mich durch die Massen zu quetschen. Somit sass ich den Vormittag am Computer und habe etliche Webseiten auf Rabatte untersucht. Selbst das war teilweise schon wirklich anstregend, besonders wenn man eigentlich nichts besonderes haben moechte und "nur mal eben gucken" will. Letztendlich habe ich aber doch einige Deals gefunden und muss jetzt nur noch warten, bis der nette Postmensch bei mir klopft. Das Einzige, was mir die Laune etwas vermiest hat, waren die hohen Versandkosten wo ich teilweise wirklich $10 vom Rabatt wieder draufzahlen musste. Aber dafuer, dass ich alles bequem von zu Hause erledigen durfte, kann ich das noch akzeptieren. 

Viele Angebote gehen noch ueber dieses Wochenende hinaus und ich denke, dass ich im Laufe der naechsten Woche noch das ein oder andere Schnaeppchen machen kann. Leider habe ich das Schnaeppchen schlechthin komplett verpasst. Erinnert ihr euch an das Crop Top, welches ich in diesem Artikel vorgstellt habe? Das war von $76 auf $20 runtergesetzt worden und war natuerlich schon ausverkauft. Schade, schade aber im Endeffekt wuesste ich hier auch nicht so wirklich, wie ich es kombinieren koennte. Bei dem cremefarbenen Spitzenkleid musste ich eine Groesse groesser als sonst bestellen, da meine Groesse schon ausverkauft war. Ich hoffe einfach, dass es trotzdem irgendwie sitzt und mit Guertel und Blazer/Shirt in Form gebracht werden kann, sollte es etwas zu locker sitzen. Aber laut Groessentabelle sind es nur 2 bis 4 cm Unterschied. Ich bin gespannt und werde euch natuerlich alles zeigen, wenn es langsam hier eintrudelt.

Die naechsten Tage werden traditionell damit verbracht, alles fuer Weihnachten zu dekorieren, was mich sehr freut, denn ich bin ja schon seit Mitte November heimlich am winterlich dekorieren.

It's this time of the day: Thanksgiving is over, Black Friday is here and Americans everywhere get crazy. Some people even camped out in front of Best Buy since Wednesday to get some great deals. Honestly, I can't understand that hype and this year, I promised myself to stay at home and not squeeze through the crowds. Therefore, I spent my morning and noon in front of my computer and browsed through thousands of websites to find some nice deals. Even that was kind of exhausting, especially since I didn't have a plan what I wanted to buy and "just wanted to have a look". Eventually, I found some great deals and now I just have to wait until my favourite mailman knocks on the door. The only thing that bummed me out was the high shipping rates. At some stores I had to pay the $10 that I saved with the discount. But since I could do everything comfortably and warm from my sofa, I can accept those fees, I think.

A lot of offers are valid for a long time and I think I might score some more later during the upcoming week. Unfortunately I totally missed THE deal of all deals. Do you remember the crop top that I showed in this post? They had it on sale for $20 instead of $76 and of course it was already out of stock. I started to be sad about it but then I realized that I don't have that many combination opportunities with it. Another problem appeared with the cream coloured lace dress. I had to buy a size bigger than I normally have because my actual size was sold out. I simply hope that it will somewhat fit or that I can make it look good with a belt and a blazer/shirt if it is not snug enough. According to the size guide it's only a 1 to 2 in difference. I'm really excited for everything to get here and I will show it to you whenever it arrives here at our house.

The next few days will be spent with putting up the Christmas decorations which I am really looking forward to. After all, I am already secretly putting some winter decorations up here and there.

H&M Austin Grand Opening

Das Warten hat fuer mich ein Ende. An diesem Wochenende hat H&M in Austin eroeffnet und ich war dabei. Allerdings ein bisschen unbeabsichtigt, denn ich dachte, dass das Grand Opening nur Samstag waere. Aber es war ein zwei Tages Event und ich hatte wirklich Glueck, dass es bei unserer Ankunft nicht ueberfuellt war. Samstag war es, was ich so lesen kannte, wohl unertraeglich; Leute haben in einer langen Schlange angestanden und es wurde nur eine bestimmte Zahl an Menschen in den Laden gelassen. Als wir heute in der Domain ankamen, war keine Schlange vor dem Laden, drinnen war es auch relativ leer und als wir durch die Tueren traten wurde uns ein "Access to Fashion Pass" in die Hand gedrueckt. Das war eigentlich eher ein H&M Gutschein in Rubbellos-Form. Die Gutscheine variierten von $10 bis zu $100 und wir hatten je einen $25 Gutschein. Bedeutete fuer mich natuerlich: $50 kostenloser H&M Kram. Da kann man sich nicht beschweren. Allerdings trat bei mir das typische H&M-Phaenomen ein: Ich habe Geld/Gutscheine und finde nichts, was mir gefaellt. Ich wollte mir eigentlich dringend eine schwarze Jeans kaufen und Hosen passen mir hier in den USA ausschliesslich nur bei H&M. Nur heute war meine Groesse ausverkauft. Aber gluecklicherweise habe ich diesen Laden jetzt in der Naehe und kann spaeter nochmal mehr oder weniger spontan vorbeigucken.

In meinen Besitz sind letztendlich zwei Strickpullover, ein Chiffonshirt und eine iPhonehuelle gewandert. Ungeduldig, wie ich bin, wollte ich nichts im Laden anprobieren und somit werde ich wohl mindestens zwei, wenn nicht alle Oberteile wieder zurueck bringen. Es sieht einfach zu unfoermig und unvorteilhaft aus. Beim Bezahlen habe ich dann auch wieder zwei $10 Gutscheine bekommen und konnte gluecklich wieder nach Hause fahren. Wir hatten wirklich Glueck mit dem Verkehr, denn dieses Wochenende ist die Formel 1 hier zu Gast in Austin und anscheinend waren die Interstates mit Staus uebersaeht.

Kennt ihr das, wenn ihr Geld habt und euch ganz besonders auf einen Laden freut und dann wirklich garnichts ansprechend findet?

The wait is over! This weekend, H&M opened its door in Austin and I was at the Grand Opening. However, I didn't plan on it because I thought the opening event would only be on Saturday. Apparently it was a two day event and I was really lucky that it wasn't crowded when we arrived at the store. I have heard that it was nearly unbearable on Saturday; people were waiting in long lines and they only left a certain amount of people inside the store. Today, there was no line and it wasn't even crowded inside the store. When we walked through the door, the store assistants handed out "Access to Fashion Passes" and it was basically an H&M coupon in lottery scratch ticket form. The coupon amount varied from $10 to $100 and we had each a $25 coupon. Which meant for me: $50 free H&M stuff. I can't complain at all. However, the typical H&M phenomena appeared again: I have money/coupons but I can't find anything that I like. I really wanted to buy black denim pants and pants only fit me at H&M here in the US. Today, they didn't have anything left in my size but luckily, I have this store nearby now and I can come over more or less spontaneously.

Ultimately, I bought two knit sweaters, a chiffon shirt and an iPhone case. Impatient as I am, I didn't try anything on in store and after having a little fitting session at home, I decided to return two or even all tops. It just doesn't look flattering at all. While checking out, I scored two $10 coupons for the next visit and so, a very happy me started the way back home. We were really lucky with the infamous Austin traffic too because this weekend they have the Formula 1 over in Austin and from what I heard, the interstates were full of traffic jams.

Do you know that phenomena when you have money and are really excited to shop at a store but then there's absolutely nothing that you find appealing?

Outfit: Promotion Ceremony

Heute geht es fuer mich auf den Stuetzpunkt, denn es gibt eine promotion ceremony. Ich habe gar keine Ahnung, wie das Ganze ablaeuft, ich weiss nur, dass ich daran teilnehmen und die neuen Rangabzeichen ans ACU-Top machen darf. Normalerweise ist der "Brauch" so, dass man die Abzeichen mit einem Faustschlag ans Oberteil macht, aber da ich durch und durch Maedchen bin und fuer mein Leben nicht schlagen kann, erspare ich mir die Peinlichkeit und mache das Ding einfach so an das Klettfeld. Dann wird es eben etwas unkonventionell. Finde ich persoenlich auch schoener, denn wer schlaegt denn seinen Partner schon gern? Ich wuerde mir da wie ein Mannsweib vorkommen.

Entschieden habe ich mich fuer ein schlichtes Outfit, der Blazer wird eventuell noch weggelassen. Eigentlich war die Zeremonie fuer 09.00 Uhr angesetzt, aber irgendwann kam ein Anruf, dass es erst um 13.00 Uhr soweit ist. Also musste ich ein bisschen auf dem Stuetzpunkt warten und habe mir die Zeit bei Burger King mit einem Vanilla Iced Coffee vertrieben und versucht, meine Griesgraemigkeit (aufgrund des fruehen Aufstehens - ich bin ein Morgenmuffel) zu beseitigen.

Today, I have to go on post because there will be a promotion ceremony. I actually have no idea how the process will be; the only thing I know is that I am allowed to participate and to put the new rank insignia on the ACU top. Usually, it's "tradition" to punch the rank on the top but since I am a total girl, I can't punch to save my life and because of that, I won't embarrass myself and simply put it on the velcro like a normal person. It might be offbeat but I personally prefer it that way. I mean, who enjoys punch their loved one? I'd really feel like a virago.

I decided to go for a simple outfit, I might leave the blazer at home. It was planned that the ceremony starts at 09.00 o'clock but when we were on post, they told us that it got changed to 13.00 o'clock. So I had to wait for a bit and went to Burger King on post to enjoy a Vanilla Iced Coffee, to wake up more and get rid of my crabbiness (because I had to get up so early - I am so not a morning person).

What I Would Wear: Run For Your Lives

Im Dezember steht fuer mich ein weiteres, interessantes Event bevor: Der Run For Your Lives Marathon. Natuerlich werde ich selbst nicht rennen, ich begnuege mich damit, dass ich einen Spectator-Apocalypse-Pass bekomme und somit das Drumherum und die Apocalypseparty miterleben kann.

Zum Event kann ich Folgendes sagen: Die Laeufer rennen eine 5km Strecke, die gespickt ist mit Hindernissen und Zombie-Akteueren. Jeder Laeufer hat einen Guertel um, an denen einige Stofffetzen befestigt sind und sobald die Zombies alle Stofffetzen abgerissen haben, ist man tot, bzw. selbst ein Zombie. Das Prinzip ist also das Gleiche wie beim flag football, nur eben mit den Untoten. Ein Muss fuer jeden fitten Zombiefan, wuerde ich einfach mal behaupten.

Dazu gibt es dann Verkaufsstaende, Spielebuden und Essstaende. Nachdem alle Renndurchlaeufe vorbei sind, gibt es die Apocalypseparty mit einigen lokalen Bands oder Bands, die zu diesem Termin auf der Durchreise sind. Welche Bands genau an dem Event in Austin spielen, wurde noch nicht veroeffentlich, ich hoffe einfach mal, dass es zumindest hoerbare Musik ist.

Als Maedchen beschaeftige ich mich natuerlich mit der Frage: Was ziehe ich an? Da ich gestern bei Topshop in Austin war, habe ich mich unheimlich in einen bordeauxfarbenen Pullover verliebt. Leider war er nicht im Sale und rund $80 fuer einen grobgestrickten Pullover moechte ich dann doch nicht ausgeben. Ich hoffe also auf mein Glueck, dass er vor dem Event noch in den Sale kommt oder dass ich beim Black Friday im November zuschlagen kann.

Ueberlegt ihr euch immer vor jedem Event, was ihr anziehen wollt? Oder kommt das meist spontan?

This december, I'm attending another, interesting event: The Run For Your Lives marathon. It goes without saying that I won't run myself, I'll only get a spectator-apocalypse-pass and enjoy the apocalypse party and everything around the race.

The run itself is a 5k run with some obstacles and zombie-actors. Each runner wears a belt with fabric pieces on it and as soon as the zombies ripped off all your fabric, you're dead - or, well, a zombie yourself. Technically, it's the same system as flag football, just with the Undead. It's a must for every zombie fan, I'd say.

Other than the race, they will have vendors, game and food stands. After all the race waves, there will be an Apocalypse Party with local bands and bands that are passing through the city during their tour. They haven't posted the band line up for Austin yet, I am hoping that it's at least decent music.

As a girl, my biggest question is: What am I going to wear? Yesterday, I went to Topshop and fell in love with a wonderful burgundy knit top. Unfortunately, it wasn't on sale and I don't really want to spend almost $80 for a net knit sweater. I simply hope it will go on sale soon or that I am lucky enough to score on Black Friday in November.
