Busy Bee

A long time ago, there was a girl that had a blog and posted things on it. Then she got sucked into adult life and was busier than ever. This girl was me.
But eventually, the girl found a little time in her busy schedule and that's why there is this post. Hurray! There is a lot of stuff going on in my life right now but I am glad to announce that I am finally done with moving and that I established a daily routine here in Northern Germany real quick. Furthermore I scored a job at a fashion store within the first week of being here and I can honestly say that I love working there. Retail is never an easy job but I have great colleagues and the store is within a little mall so that I can wander around (or go to the Food Court) during my break. Since it is just a student job, I don't make a lot of money but luckily I am making Euros which pays for all our bills that are in Euro, so that we can use my husband's money for everything else and it won't affect our finances much. Currently, we are saving up for a nice vacation when he gets back from Afghanistan. Yes, the deployment has started and let me tell you: Even though I am busy every day, time seems to just stop. The first month is not even over and it feels like he has been gone for a year already. Right now, I am preparing his first care package, so that the guy has a few awesome things while sitting in an Afghan valley.

The following photos are a glimpse from the past weeks and what was going on in my life during my blog-absence.

At 2 AM we had to say our See You Soons. It broke my heart, I kind of managed to keep the tears away until I got home.

Insta-Dubai

Do you know this phenomena, where you come home from your vacation and your whole stay seems more like a dream than reality? That's always the case when I get home from a trip. It seems like you've never really been gone. I came home over a week ago and I was thrown back into my normal daily life the day I got home. Dustin picked me up at the airport in Munich in the early morning and a few hours later, we attended a 4th of July BBQ. At that time, I was awake and on the go for over 24 hours which was a brilliant reason to leave the BBQ a bit early.
Since then, I had to go on campus a few times and among other things, I had to take a test to show that I am able to speak English. Additionally, we are preparing for the upcoming deployment and the attempt to make the most out of the time we still have together. And of course I am editing the photos of my Dubai trip. The problem is that I took pictures like a maniac (over 250 photos within 4 days) and therefore it takes a little bit of time to edit everything - I'm not even done with the photos of the first day. However, I really want to show you some impressions and so I decided to publish my Instagram-photos on my blog (some of you have seen them already). Have fun looking at these little collages and I promise that I'll sit down and at least finish editing the photos of the first day!

Here we are

Finally a new post. With something new: This is my first post from Germany! We still don't really have internet - right now we are using this nifty little to go USB-stick from t-mobile - but this stick will do for now. I have so much to tell that I don't even know where to start... we have an apartment now. It's not amazing or drop dead gorgeous but it's acceptable. It basically comes down to what you make out of it, right? Two days ago, we got our "rental furniture" from the Army and I immediately put most of the things into our basement and the spare bedroom because these items were so horribly ugly. We kept the sofa from the 60s/70s, a little side table from the barracks rooms and a grandma-style dining room table with chairs in the actual living area. I definitely want to get a cover for the sofa so that visitors (but mostly me) don't have to see this thing since our sofa will arrive, together with all our other stuff, in June. A long, long list with decorations and furniture that we need was already created, the problem is that we still don't have a car (which will arrive at the end of May - if the ship doesn't sink hahah) and we don't want to pay for a rental car all the time. Now I'm looking up delivery fees and for the smaller things, we will just use public transportation.
Yesterday I went to a job fair and had little success. I had 6 favourites: One of them wasn't even on the fair, three only hired US citizens and/or people who could start working in the US right away; but one company told me they have jobs for Green Card holders on their website and another one took my resume. Both of them are national security companies/weapons developing companies and they would go great together with my bachelors degree on my resume later on. At least I can say that the reasons that got me turned down by the other companies weren't because I suck but because of things I can't have influence in (at least not for the next 2 1/2 years). However, every single company was impressed by my skills (especially foreign language wise), my experience with working abroad in several countries and my university major. I guess you can say that this job fair kind of was a success.
Our boys and our little bunny girl in Oklahoma are getting ready for their journey overseas now too. McPlushy needed a new microchip because his was only valid for the US, Yuri needed one renewal of his vaccinations and Coco's turn is next week. So, overall the three should arrive here in mid-May the latest. I really can't wait!

And sorry for the horrible picture quality, our internet isn't the fastest und loads/saves pictures in this weird blurry format u_u

Blog break.

Don't worry, it won't be a complete or long break. But tomorrow is our last day here at Ft Hood and I don't know when I'll have internet access again (and mobile blogging isn't very practical for long texts and HTML coding), therefore I am going on a little hiatus. On Sunday, we will leave for Oklahoma to be with the in-laws for a bit and on Thursday evening, we will drive to Dallas. On Friday, we leave our car at the car shipping company and since our flight leaves on Tuesday morning, we will just stay in Dallas close to the airport for that time.

Our home is all packed up, except for a few little things that go into our suitcases and our furniture is already on the way to Germany. This means we are sitting in an empty house and sleep on an air mattress. My old bones aren't too happy about it but hey, gotta play along when it means that I will be home soon. I already found 3 job postings that I will apply for as soon as we arrive in Vilseck. If I can already score one of these jobs, we will have a perfect start for our new life.

In the meantime you can still follow me on my Facebook page and Instagram (@whoaisa) where I will post little updates.

Big News ♥

With the end of this semester, I thought everything gets more quiet and I'd have more time to blog. Obviously, I thought wrong because I am busier than ever and it's not only because of Christmas coming up. Luckily for me, I got all the Christmas presents at the beginning of this month and I sent my mom's parcel just in time - the USPS wanted $92 for a regular sized and not too heavy parcel. Quite rude, I think.
But the actual big news came on December 11th. First, I only got a cryptic text without much information and slowly but surely, I got more details. In the beginning, I didn't really want to believe it, I became rather careful with news like that but now I can officially share it with you (the papers are already printed and signed): We are moving back to Germany! And it will already happen in April. I have no idea why everything happened so quickly and (almost) without issues but for some reason, the US Army wasn't a bunch of idiots and had an opening in Vilseck. And that's where we will go. If we will live in Vilseck or in one of the towns nearby, we don't know it yet, it's too early to think of it anyways. However, I thought about job possibilties and I think I am going to commute to Nuremberg. My college will continue as usual, right now I am trying to get some more information on how it will change or not but my university is rather slow and after one week of waiting, I received an email with the content that they sent my request to another department and they are going to contact me soon. I guess this won't happen before January. Fortunately, we already have all forms and checklists ready for transporting our animals and our car, so there won't be any stress with these things. I found out that we can ship our car from Dallas instead of driving all the way down to Corpus Christi. Now it is just about saving up a bunch, so we can transport the pets - those transport kennels aren't cheap, not to mention the flight prices.
Nevertheless, I am stoked to go back "home" and stay there for 3 to 4 years but honestly, I am going to miss a couple things (especially our house) here in the US.

Instagoodies: The last few days

The last few days, I have been extremely busy and since I didn't want to keep my blog empty, I am going to use the beloved Instagram to keep you updated. A lot of you already follow me on there but not everyone has a smartphone or an Instagram account.
This past week contained a lot of college stuff and mostly of Christmas preparations. Our outside decorations are finally done and inside our house, the only thing missing is the banister rail. Our tree is done, same goes for the advent wreath (even though I still haven't bought matching candles) and I also made cookies this past weekend. The only thing that's not cooperating is the weather. The forecast predicts temperatures around 25 degrees Celsius for the next days and I am really upset about it. However, I can't change it and have to live with it. I hope you have better weather than I do and won't have a hard time to get into the spirit of Christmas.

H&M Austin Grand Opening

The wait is over! This weekend, H&M opened its door in Austin and I was at the Grand Opening. However, I didn't plan on it because I thought the opening event would only be on Saturday. Apparently it was a two day event and I was really lucky that it wasn't crowded when we arrived at the store. I have heard that it was nearly unbearable on Saturday; people were waiting in long lines and they only left a certain amount of people inside the store. Today, there was no line and it wasn't even crowded inside the store. When we walked through the door, the store assistants handed out "Access to Fashion Passes" and it was basically an H&M coupon in lottery scratch ticket form. The coupon amount varied from $10 to $100 and we had each a $25 coupon. Which meant for me: $50 free H&M stuff. I can't complain at all. However, the typical H&M phenomena appeared again: I have money/coupons but I can't find anything that I like. I really wanted to buy black denim pants and pants only fit me at H&M here in the US. Today, they didn't have anything left in my size but luckily, I have this store nearby now and I can come over more or less spontaneously.

Ultimately, I bought two knit sweaters, a chiffon shirt and an iPhone case. Impatient as I am, I didn't try anything on in store and after having a little fitting session at home, I decided to return two or even all tops. It just doesn't look flattering at all. While checking out, I scored two $10 coupons for the next visit and so, a very happy me started the way back home. We were really lucky with the infamous Austin traffic too because this weekend they have the Formula 1 over in Austin and from what I heard, the interstates were full of traffic jams.

Do you know that phenomena when you have money and are really excited to shop at a store but then there's absolutely nothing that you find appealing?

What I Would Wear: Gun Range

This weekend, we went to the gun range nearby. Typically Texas/US. Since I am planning to work for an intelligence agency or a security company, it was time to get used to guns, rifles and everything else that produces a loud boom. However, this is easier said than done; at least for me. I passionately hate everything that is loud and makes boom and especially when those noise makers can be deadly. I've already been to a gun range before but at that time, I enjoyed the sun and was distracted. This weekend it was time to face my fear. Fortunately for me, I got really good ear protection and because of that I was able to enjoy the nice autumn sun - with a safe distance to the "shooting zone". Towards late afternoon, I couldn't chicken out anymore and it was time for me to shoot. Luckily for me, I only had to shoot one single time and it was over pretty fast. I have to admit that I am slowly getting used to this stuff but guns, rifles and bullets will always give me the creeps.

What I observed though is: the horrible clothing pieces of the other people out there. Naturally, it is their "hobby clothing" and a gun range is not a place for high fashion but I think that you can still dress a wee bit more fashionable. Oversized camo sweatpants and beat up sweaters with holes in it aren't very nice to look at.
I picked a few pieces that I, personally, would wear on a day at the range.

Do you share my opinion that you can at least dress a bit normal even though it is just for a hobby? Or do you disagree?

(Sonnig aber dennoch windig // sunny but very windy - Verschoenertes Ziel: Grumpy Gunther // beautyfied target: grumpy Gunther - "Meine" Kugel // "my" bullet // Und ich habe irgendwie doch getroffen // And I somehow managed to hit the target)
